Hellebores or Lenten Roses

Hellebores or Lenten Roses are an exciting new flower for me. I suppose someday I’ll have discovered everything but not yet! Their gorgeous color palettes offer a magical secret display when other plants aren’t blooming. Hellebores love to grow in the shade and under heavy tree canopy which is typically a tricky place for finding things to grow.

There is just something about their sugary, muted, delicate flowers that has me hooked.  Available in white, green, purple, pink and peach – they seem fun to collect. This year I was able to track down three plants at my local greenhouses but I think an online order is in my future.

I am absolutely obsessed with this one that I purchased in full bloom. image2image3image4image5

Long-blooming and low-maintenance, are Hellebores heading to your yard?

Thank you for posting this interesting flower. Although familiar with the name, I have never grown. The flower seems reminiscent of columbine. Are they related? Good luck with these and I look forward to seeing more varieties.

I love hellebore – they’re one of my favourite plants.

Hellebores are great. The only issue is they do tend to self seed but who would reject a hellebore seedling
