Travel: Piney Ridge Greenhouse – Johnston, IA

Located at 6355 NW 51st St, Johnston, IA 50131, Piney Ridge Greenhouse has the BEST selection of plants that I have found in Des Moines or Omaha and has definitely become my favorite greenhouse.

I have been so impressed with their plugs of the very hard to grow yourself Lisianthus along with four-packs of zinnias, marigolds, dusty miller, cosmos, celosia, dianthus, impatients and much more! Not to mention their selection of larger potted begonias, dahlias, coleus along with their wide-range of perennials and herbs.

image1I have visited twice already this spring and have loaded up my SUV both times with all kinds of great finds. I am most excited about the Lisanthus, as I would not attempt to grow this myself due to the long time it takes to grow from seed to plug (months and months). I tried to grow Millet this year from seed but not sure how great they are doing right now… of course I found 4″ pots of both green and purple Millet at Piney Ridge that I bought as back-up. I swear they have everything… even Hellebores! A must see for sure. image2Their mission is to:
