Hummingbirds & Honeysuckle

I noticed that some hummingbirds were attracted to our gorgeous honeysuckle bush right outside our sunroom. I went ahead and purchased a feeder for them for when its done blooming. We now have at least four birds hanging around and squabbling over the feeder. They are so fun to watch and are always around.

How to make Hummingbird Nectar:
Mix four cups of water with one cup of sugar in a saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil and remove from heat. Let nectar cool before filling your feeder.
IMG_8909IMG_8910It was really hot here today in Southwest Iowa. My fiancé was moving some things around in our chicken coop and noticed a hummingbird up in the rafters. He was resting on a rafter and then kept trying to get out a glass window. He was clearly exhausted, hot and confused. I asked Ryan to climb up and grab him so we could move him outside. He was somewhat ok with being picked up so you know he was tired. We moved him outside and he took off. Just gorgeous. IMG_8815IMG_8815-2Do you have your feeder up?

Beautiful, beautiful honeysuckle. Ryan is now my hero, also. Thanks for helping the hummingbird. Sweet baby needed help. Glad your summer is now filled with hummers. They are a joy. Beautiful photography, as always Melissa. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank you! I was a neat experience to see one that close and to see all of the detail in its feathers!

I miss the numerous hummers in AR, and have tried to attract them with a feeder here and haven’t had much luck. Did have a little guy come visit in and off last year so hopeful he will tell his friends and we will see more this year!
