This spring here in southwest Iowa has been one for the record books. Yesterday alone had a mix of rain, tornadoes, snow and flooding forecasted across Iowa. The day before the high was 71 and this weekend it’s supposed to snow.
Most of my free time is on the weekends and we haven’t had many great weekends. I feel SO behind this year.
What have I been up to since I haven’t been working outside? I attended the Cass County Master Gardener Spring Garden Conference on March 17. The location and venue were phenomenal and the event was very organized. Here are some photos from that event.
The following weekend I went to the West Pottawattamie Master Gardener Spring Garden Conference on March 24, 2018 held at The Center in Council Bluffs. I heard from Scott Evans, Jan Riggenbach and other great speakers.
Since March, I have also helped West Pott. Iowa State University Extension celebrate their 100 birthday with a brunch at the Council Bluffs Library, attended the CHI Health Foundation Heritage Awards to honor several dedicated volunteers in southwest Iowa, became qualified to Stop The Bleed (Bleeding Control Basic v. 1.0 Course) with Impact CB Young Professionals and CHI Health Mercy Council Bluffs, went to a Meet the Artist event hosted by PACE – Pottawattamie Arts Culture Entertainment and heard a lecture from Amy Stewart – author of the Drunken Botanist (photo below).
So I’ve been busy. Let’s hope the weather changes by next weekend so I can get outside! Here are some photos of what this spring has been like.

One piece of good news, is that I have volunteer Larkspur coming up on its own out in the flower field. Now that is exciting!
