Today was the annual West Pottawattamie Master Gardener Plant Sale from 8 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Iowa School for the Deaf. Proceeds from the sale will go toward scholarships and local community garden projects.
The hard working master gardeners organized “digs” at homes around the county to help owner’s thin their perennials or remove some flower beds altogether. The plants are then potted up and kept watered until the sale. The volunteers have been working for several weeks to prepare for this sale, which is one of their largest fundraising events of the year.
One garage housed all of the shade perennials and another the sun-loving plants to make it easier for gardeners to get the right plant for their space.
Community members attending the sale today had the opportunity to learn more about the Master Gardener program and to ask local experts various gardening questions.
Currently, Master Gardener plant sales are being hosted all over the state. Find events in your area on their website or if you are local, follow the West Pott. Master Gardeners on Facebook! Great job to all involved.
Hats off to Chuck, our fearless plant sale leader! One of the most hard-working men you’ll find in the spring, preparing for this sale.
