Garden Journal 7/15/2018

It was in the 80’s this weekend and we are in need of some rain again. I just watered all of my vegetables and some new hydrangeas I planted this year for the first time in weeks. Right now it looks like we have a chance of rain on Wednesday and I’m really hoping we…

Metamorphosis

On this cold and dreary spring day, I decided to visit the Metamorphosis display at Lauritzen Gardens again. It was balmy in the upper greenhouse, so much that my lenses fogged over. The display includes artwork from by Sayaka Ganz and Aurora Robson. From the Laurtizen Gardens website: Millions of pieces of plastic find their way into…

Flower Field in September

Dahlias and celosia are the stars of the garden right now. It’s really fun to photograph across the four 100 ft. rows and find pretty layers in the shot. My favorite time to shoot is late in the day when the sun is almost gone. Happy gardening!

This is the time of year that really tests my patience. Everything is planted in the ground and all I have to do is weed, water, weed and water even more.

After the Frost

What do the dahlias look like after a frost? They look pretty black and dead. Right now they are busy sending all of their energy down to the tubers.

First Frost Coming Tonight

It’s supposed to freeze tonight on October 12, 2016 here is Southwest Iowa. I took one last stroll through the garden tonight with my camera before we drop to 30 degrees late tonight.
